Para Nuestra Gente! Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Initiative
Due to the devastation from recent hurricanes impacted on the islands of Puerto Rico and our may children and families we only see it fit to unite those willing to unite to help empower those in need, As a movement for "Our People" we decided to call this unification of humanitarians and efforts to provide service to others, "Para Nuestra Gente!".
With help from many partners and volunteers, we have taken it upon ourselves to do what we can to assist with inspiring, uniting and empowering our children and families of Boriken.
In our efforts to help replenish crops lost in the island's devastation we are raising funds to contract local gardeners and chefs to teach children and families in their local communities how to grow and cook their own food through and initiative we call CHEF and KIDS. Through this initiative we are also joining forces with Gastro Arte PR(a founding partner of CHEF and KIDS Puerto Rico), Fundacion El Plato Caliente and others on the island to cook for and serve free hot meals daily to those families in the most devastated communities. Chef Carlos Irizarry through his company Gastro Arte PR has been assisting Fundacion El Plato Caliente in providing hot meals to the children and families of these communities cooking and serving 2,000 hot meals a day. This is an Initiative Chef Raphael Rodriguez started as soon as the hurricane's unleashed their fury on the island leaving 80% of the population without food or water till this very day. Unable to generate funds on the island to keep this very important mission as strong as it needs to be, the Fundacion El Plato Caliente initiative desperately needs our help; everyone's help. Together we fuel and strengthen the "Para Nuestra Gente" movement empowering our beautiful valiant and noble people to feed their families and rebuild all that has been lost.
In addition, we are also raising funds to contract local barbers to initiate our BUZZITFORWARD - DO BETTER PROJECT, designed to help our youth LOOK BETTER, FEEL BETTER, and in-turn, DO BETTER.
The purpose is to encourage kids in our communities to do better or continue doing better by awarding them with complimentary haircuts and mentoring services (any haircut or hairstyle of their choosing) throughout the school year.
The service of the haircut helps our kids Look Better and Feel Better while our mentors provide one-on-one bonding, words of encouragement, and the follow-up needed to help them Do Better.
Local schools and youth organizations in our communities can sign up to participate in the BUZZ BOXX Mobile route where we will visit their location periodically to administer the Do Better Project curriculum.
In an effort to help improve and build local businesses we aim to hire stylists from barbershops and beauty shops within the communities we serve. Each stylist undergoes a background check and receives at least 10 hours of mentorship training provided before meeting with the children, as well as ongoing training throughout the year.
Students’ progress (and our success) is monitored through surveys and reports from the kids and the participating youth organizations and schools.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS We are currently working to raise $60,000 to purchase and fabricate a Buzz Boxx Mobile that will allow us to serve our communities more efficiently by eliminating the high permitting and insurance costs associated with our original non-mobile Buzz Boxx model. This will help us reach more children as we are able to add to and expand the community route. We ask that donors and or sponsors contribute what they can and encourage others to contribute to make this program a success. The Buzz Boxx Mobile will park and provide weekly grooming and mentoring services to youth of the local community providing up 960 grooming and mentoring sessions per year. Buzz Boxx Mobile will operate for 48 weeks servicing community youth at a rate of 20 plus youth per week.
Teaming up with local barbers and barbershops, together with the support of local sponsors, gives us the potential to service over 600 kids per month and over 7,200 kids per year.
